Ladies Fly-fishing

For ladies events please click here.

Hi Ladies

Well I thought it a good day to put pen to paper and wish my fellow Fly Fishers good health and happiness going into 2008. Reflecting on the past year, the wonderful fishing I got to enjoy, here is hoping it was just a taste of what I hope to enjoy in the year ahead. Listed below are a few things I thought you should put into your fly fishing calendar.

Come To Fly Fishing School in March 2008 - When fishing the ladies Nationals this year (held on the 9th-11th November 2007) the feed back I got from there was that the ladies want to do a little more Fly Fishing theory. The organizers would have liked that to happen and plans had been put into place to have such lectures, but in reality it was too much to fit into one weekend and the environment was not conducive to a class room type situation and not much more could be done in the time frame.

So I got to thinking that I would arrange a weeks fishing and within the week arrange lectures at set times during the course of each day, probably in the middle of the day, as with it being March, it will still be very summery and the heat of the day is a good time to be in doors, leaving us free to fish early morning and late evening. Bookings will be taken either by e-mail – thalia@mweb.co.za or 082 882 8051 / 011 609 7806

The Venue I have chosen is Dunkeld Country Estates – See below info on the resort – the dates 17th March – 21st March 2008.

Only 250km from Johannesburg, a wonderful experience awaits you at this up-market trout and game lodge. The secluded and well equipped self-catering chalets are set amongst dense trees, surrounded by tranquil dams and rolling plains. Fly fishing in one of the eighteen well stocked dams. Some interesting and historic sights dating back to the times of the Anglo Boer War can be found on the Dunkeld Estate.

Mozambique adventure
27th November 2008 – 8th December 2008.
I am busy putting a trip together, past the islands (past Vilanculas). The name eludes me currently, but is a very well know fishing spot. Exclusive bookings only for club members, reservation are made a year in advance. I would be looking to fill 2 – 3 vehicles for this trip, with it being so far north a night is spent at Chidenguele on the way in and on the way out. I am also investigating flights – will let you know. As soon as I have the exact costs I will send out the information. I chose the destination for the fact that the boat hire is included and is far cheaper than the normal operators in Mozambique – whom I have found to be outrageously expensive. I also chose it bearing in mind the ladies coming with would be first time or second time Salt-water fly fishing and would need to be guaranteed fish. More on that as soon as I have it – diarize the dates in the meantime!

In ending I will continue to do research on what’s happening in the fly fishing world and in the next few weeks hope to send you a spreadsheet of suggested events, day outings or trips – I plan to make sure we Tiger fish this year! Should any of you know of what else is on the agenda for fishing please send me a mail.

Happy Hearts!
